During summer 2012 Bedford High School for Girls will close as a result of its merger with Dame Alice Harpur School to form the new Bedford Girls’ School on Cardington Road, Bedford. As a result, the existing High School site, on and around Bromham Road, will become vacant from summer 2012. As the site’s owner, it is important that the Charity finds a solution to secure new uses for the land and buildings.
We have therefore instructed Savills to provide advice on planning, development and marketing matters and to engage with the Local Planning Authority. Savills have now carried out market reviews to identify a number of potential uses for the site and also undertaken initial planning assessments.
The work undertaken to date forms the content of a public exhibition which is open to anyone who’s interested in the site’s future. The exhibition, and the feedback we gather from it, will help inform the production of a site Development Brief that will be used as a marketing tool and template for future development. The public exhibition will be held in the main hall at Bedford High School and will be open for viewing on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July between the hours of 10am and 5pm. If you are unable to attend the exhibition then you are invited to view the exhibition materials via this website.
Our Trustees are also very keen to hear your views and ideas based on the work undertaken to take. People visiting the exhibition will have an opportunity to fill in a comments sheet. If you're not visiting the exhibition, but viewing it via the website, you can log your comments by completing and submitting the comments sheet.
Deadline for submitting your comments sheet is Monday, 25 July 2011.
