15 Students Awarded University Bursaries
The financial commitment of sending a child to university is a daunting prospect for most parents, but none more so for those families with lower incomes and an able child who deserves the opportunity to make the most of their academic potential.
However this financial burden has now been eased for students from 15 local families on lower incomes. They are the second cohort of students to be awarded a bursary from The Bedford Charity’s Undergraduate Bursary Scheme, each receiving £1,000 per year for up to three years of study.
The scheme aims to help students who live in the local authority area covered by Bedford Borough Council and attend participating schools and colleges in the Borough. The bursaries support young people studying for full time undergraduate degrees at the UK University of their choice.
This new scheme, which will see a second cohort of students receiving bursaries in Autumn 2009, is an important addition to The Bedford Charity’s £900,000 a year grant making portfolio that focuses on providing grants within the town of Bedford and surrounding areas.
