Bedford Charity Grants

The Bedford Charity is a major contributor to valuable community activities within the Borough. As well as owning and managing 39 almshouse dwellings, we award grants from our responsive programme that normally total approx. £500,000 each year.

Our three broad areas of charitable activity encompass:

  • education

  • relief

  • recreation

We also have a number of themed grants programmes awarding up to £100,000 each year for each theme. There are currently three programmes running:

Excellence in Education

Voluntary Sector Infrastructure Support

Homelessness

Child and Adolescent Mental Health

These programmes enable us to focus more resources on topics of particular interest to our Trustees. Our aim is to increase the impact of or funding through specific, targeted interventions. For this reason awards from the themed programmes are made to organisations which meet specific criteria, and which can demonstrate that their projects have the potential to influence policy and practice or be replicated elsewhere.

We welcome ideas and proposals for projects that aim to make a real difference to the people that live within the Borough of Bedford.
