Press releases5 February 2010 Girls’ Schools will merge by September 2012 Trustees have announced that Bedford High School for Girls (BHSG) and Dame Alice Harpur School (DAHS) will be fully merged onto the Cardington Road site by September 2012 and will be known as Bedford Girls’ School. 19 January 2010 Final Green Light for the Bedford Academy The creation of the new academy in Bedford has taken several important leaps forward recently with formal approval from the government. 13 November 2009 Merger of Bedford High School for Girls and Dame Alice Harpur School Since the decision to merge Bedford High School for Girls (BHSG) and Dame Alice Harpur School (DAHS) in June the Trustees, Heads and their advisers have been working together to develop the merger plans that will achieve their new vision¹ for the school. 14 September 2009 Local Maintained Schools Trust Newsletter The Charity is currently trust partners with a number of maintained school trusts and this newsletter outlines the early developments of the trusts formed during the past academic year 2008-2009. 3 July 2009 Bedford Charity announces decision to merge Bedford High School for Girls and Dame Alice Harpur School 25 June 2009 Claire Smith is appointed as the new Principle Designate for the Bedford Academy It’s another step forward for the Bedford Academy, with the appointment of its first Principal. Claire Smith will take up post in January 2010. 4 June 2009 Bedford Academy receives £27.8m capital funding Partnership for Schools (PfS) has confirmed that capital funding in the region of £27.8m has been allocated to enable the Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust) and Bedford College to develop their plans for an Academy at John Bunyan Upper School. 30 January 2009 Sound bite from Heart FM (96.9) news coverage Saturday 30 January 2009 – “Nearly £1m of grants were handed out by the Bedford Charity last year” 29 January 2009 Charity distributed £830,796 in grant awards last year in the Borough of Bedford Last year 75 grant awards, amounting to £830,796, were given to organisations and individuals within the Borough of Bedford by local grant provider The Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust). 11 December 2008 Bedford Modern School announces new Headmaster Bedford Modern School is delighted to announce that Mr Michael Hall has been appointed to succeed Mr Stephen Smith as Head of BMS from January 2010. 9 September 2008: Money worries eased with University Bursary Awards15 local students were each awarded £3,000 from the Bedford Charity’s University Bursary Scheme programme to help ease the financial strain of attending university.
