Introduction
Our almshouse accommodation includes 24 one bedroom flats at Harpur House in Bedford and 14 bungalows and cottages in Randalls Close, Bromham
All of our almshouses are managed for us by Bedford Citizen’s Housing Association (BHCA) www.bcha.org.uk
Our almshouses offer:
- A safe, friendly environment
- Private accommodation offering our residents their own front door
- Accommodation for couples
- Emergency alarm systems allowing our residents to contact help 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- A duty manager who supports our residents. Personal care is not offered but we can help with finding personal care
- Regular social activities and outings e.g. coffee mornings, bingo, quizzes, fish & chip suppers, concerts and the Almshouse Summer Party
Residents pay a weekly maintenance charge for living in our almshouses – this includes a small charge for support services. Generally the maintenance charge is lower than rents charged by local housing associations. Many of our residents get help to pay the charge either through Housing Benefit or the Supporting People Grant.
Extra Care Facilities
Our almshouses are not suitable for residents with very high personal care needs. However we do have partnership arrangements with other local housing providers who can cater for higher levels of need. These include Dame Alice Court and Sir William Harpur House. Both of these schemes were built with large donations from the Bedford Charity.
