Privacy Policy

This website is under the control of The Bedford Charity (The Harpur Trust), Princeton Court, Pilgrim Centre, Brickhill Drive, Bedford, England MK41 7PZ ("the Charity").  We aim to comply with all UK data protection legislation.  Further details of the personal data we hold, and how we use it, can be found on the Information Commissioner's website at www.ico.gov.uk under registration number Z1670129.  Further information about data protection is also available there.

In this privacy policy, the terms personal data and processing have the same meaning as in the Data Protection Act 1998.

Processing of your personal data

We may use personal data collected through our website (including the contact forms) to monitor web traffic, interest in our grant programmes, to give feedback, or to send surveys asking for feedback on our services.  Apart from this we will not process any personal data collected through this website unless we have first told you how we are going to do so or that it is obvious.

We may collect information about the software on your computer (e.g., your browser version) and your IP address (your connection with the internet) in order to improve your interaction with this website.  This may happen automatically without your being aware of it.

We may use cookies (small text files which we and other website operators store on your computer when you visit our website) to deliver a better and more personalised interaction.  They enable us to recognise you when you return to this site, store information about your preferences, and improve the way your searches are processed.  They also enable us to generate statistics about the number of visitors we have and how they use our website and the internet.  You can set your browser to reject our cookies if you wish (you should consult your browser help section for details), but this might restrict your use of this and other websites.

Disclosure of your personal data

We will not sell your personal data other than in the unlikely event that we sell a substantial part of the Charity's assets (for example, if we became insolvent).   We may disclose it to a prospective purchaser, but only for use in connection with that sale.  We may also disclose it to a third party if we have a legal obligation to do so and we have not voluntarily assumed that obligation.

Your statutory rights

You have a right to ask us not to process your personal data for direct marketing purposes.

You have a right to know what personal data we hold, who we acquired it from, how we process it, and who we disclose it to.  We will charge the statutory fee for dealing with your request (usually £10).

You have a right to ask us not to make decisions based solely on the automatic processing of your personal data if those decisions affect you to a significant degree.

You have a right to ask us not to process your personal data in a way that is likely to cause unwarranted and substantial damage or distress.
